Q: What about Housing?

EMPLOYEE HOUSING

Each year Breckenridge Patrol receives an allocation of beds from Human Resources for staff to live in Employee Housing. It is at the discretion of management as to how the beds will be assigned each season. If you are a full-time new employee you might qualify to live at our employee housing location in Breckenridge or Keystone. Beds will be assigned on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Our Breck Housing is centrally located on the north side of Breckenridge along the Free Ride bus route.  It is situated blocks from the town’s public recreation center and a mile to the Breckenridge Ski Resort, Main Street, and the Summit Stage Transit Center.

COUNTY HOUSING

If employee housing is not an option please start your hunt early for housing to secure yourself a place to live in Breckenridge or elsewhere in Summit County (Frisco, Keystone, Silverthorne, Dillon, Blue River).

Finding housing in Breckenridge can be challenging. There are a number of bulletin boards around town, as well as the local newspaper advertising rooms for rent. Check out http://www.summitdaily.com/ and http://rockies.craigslist.org/ for additional housing opportunities. There are also a few Facebook groups for those seeking rentals or roommates: Summit/Park County Housing Needed/For RentHigh Rockies Housing,.

It is important to note that most landlords require the first month’s rent, last month’s rent and a security deposit up front. If you are able to sign a year lease you are in a much better position than someone who can only commit for the winter season.

LOCATIONS

  • Here’s a Map of the area

  • Town of Breckenridge will be the closest

  • Many other employees live in Blue River, and Frisco as they are close on the bus route.

  • Others live on the other side of Lake Dillon. Here you have Summit Cove, Dillon, Silverthorne, Wildernest, and Keystone.

INSIDER TIPS

Relocating to the mountains may seem like a difficult journey, but it is something that is done by people like you every day. It can actually be very simple if you keep these key things in mind:

BE FINANCIALLY PREPARED

Plan ahead and have extra money for food, travel and housing deposits.  Deposits range from $300 for employee housing to much more for first, last and security deposits for non-Vail Resorts owned housing.  Remember, your are moving to a resort community.  Therefore the cost of living may be higher than expected.  Please be prepared to pay more for certain things such as food, gas, clothing, etc..

TIME YOUR MOVE

If you plan to move here in advance of your start date, please realize that our positions as well as community positions are very seasonal and few jobs are available during the off season.  We do not have extra work during our off seasons, which is usually late April into early June and then again in Late September until November.  Employees are paid every two weeks and the last day of the pay-period is one week prior to payday.  Remember, your first paycheck could take as long as three weeks to a month from your start date.  Be prepared and have enough money with you to live comfortably until payday!

HOUSING COSTS

Many different housing options exist within our area, but it is generally accepted that each bedroom of a rental property ranges from $510 on up to well over $1,000 per month depending on location and quality.

Q: What about Parking and Transportation

FREE PARKING

The Airport Parking Lot on the North side of town is free for guests and employees all season. After parking you will board a bus that takes you to the breck transfer stations. From there you can board a bus to your base area, or board the gondola if you are working at peak 8.

The Ice Rink Lot is on the South side of town. This lot currently does not require a parking permit or payments, but might fill up early in the morning.

Both lots have restrictions on overnight parking so please follow their signage and payment policies.

PERMIT PARKING

BRECK EMPLOYEE PERMIT

The South Gondola Parking Lot changes to paid parking each November. You will need a South Gondola Parking Permit for the winter if you want to park for free, please keep in mind some peak days apply where employees cannot park there, or need to carpool with four people or more to park there even if you have a permit. You will need an employee ID in order to apply for the parking permit. This fall 2021 we will email communication on how to apply and obtain a Breck Employee Permit.

From the parking lot you can take the bus to your base area, or if you are working at peak 8 you can take the gondola.
